I can’t remember how I stumbled across her, but I attended Hima’s virtual gathering at the turn of the year to 2022 on “Collective Dreaming”. I still cannot articulate how powerful and moving it was and how the words and intentions have both grounded and expanded me in ways that any type of traditional lacklustre “resolution” would. She writes a weekly living journal called afternoon dreams.
Her latest entry #68 – on creative space spoke to me on a deep level and moved me more than most of the things I have read in the last year. It’s no discredit to all the great books, articles and other pieces from which I’ve had the opportunity to learn. Rather, Hima’s voice and language is simply beautiful. I can relate, and feel a deep shared humanity and she teases apart so many similar ideas and meandering thoughts that have come up in conversations with myself or other dear friends.
Here are some excerpts that spoke to me the most
“After loads of input and inspiration, I just let it all be, like dough waiting to rise. I can almost imagine these sparks of possibility filling the space between disparate ideas and feelings and tensions to knit a narrative that brings ease and peace to my body as a fractal of our collective body, and can begin to be translated into a visual dialogue.”
THIS ONE LANDED DEEPLY:
“It takes time to learn the language of your creative process — and hear what it needs to grow into a compelling, coherent and connective work of art.”
Yes, yes, and yes.
“Truly, we are all in the creative process of living and relating and navigating and reimagining and bursting the bubbles we find ourselves in, and the hill that I will die on is that everyone deserves the space to see that process through and true.”
This line that verbalizes such an expansive concept yet makes sense of it:
Thank you Hima. I receive the gift of your words and articulation of experience with gratitude.
