Our little feline gardener assistant watching over all the seedlings. That was one of many cool things of note from this month…

April 2 – Preparing the beds

- S went and got a truckload full of “soil amender” (turns out it’s compost)
- Very economical. The bags of compost from a garden center are 20L bag for $5.99
- Meanwhile at Creative Brick ‘n’ Blocks Ltd.http://www.bricksnblocks.com/wordpress/contact-information/ we were able to purchase an entire truck full (cubic yard) for $45.
- A yard would be about 38 bags of soil, so even in this one truckload we paid $45 for what would have been over $230 with tax (and all the plastic bags that would end of in the landfill
- Love that S found this option
- One truckload was about 12 wheel barrows and covered the vegetable patch.
- We will have to do further truckloads of compost for the other food garden beds and containers
S also expanded the vegetable patch to cover more area. Voila!
Planting Schedule
Most of it we stuck to.

April 3 Starting more seeds indoors
Gus: Guardian of the Garden

“This is just me goofing around with seeds I saved from last year.” -S

Moving them outside to get more natural light and sprout.
There were a couple days where it hailed. A LOT. Surprised the plants outside made it.

and other trays we kept inside with grow lights

April 9 Prep garden
(raking, pruning, etc.)
Let’s be honest and S and his Papa did all that.
April 16
- Direct sowed a bunch of stuff.
- We got impatient and transplanted a bunch of the tomato and eggplant seedlings that we had started at home.
Planted asparagus crowns. More details here at a post we made of the gardening April 16.
